Sri Lanka Ministry of Higher Education has decided to offer the internationally awarded athletes the chance to follow a degree course on sports.
According to the degree programme that is to be started in 2012, athletes who have won
medals in Olympics, Commonwealth and Asian games are eligible to apply for the sports degree.
The medal they have won will be considered the qualification for the degree course, says the Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education Sunil Jayantha Navaratne.
The Z-score ranks will not be applicable for this degree and after following a course in Open University of Sri Lanka, students will be affiliated to Sabaragamuwa University for the degree course, he says.
