sri Lanka Schools Basketball team led by Praneeth Udumalgala created history when they overcame much favourite Colombo BC 65-42 in the Men’s final of the 49th Senior Basketball Nationals last Thursday at Police Park basketball courts.

to tackle the young opponents who came up with some amazing throws and passes. At the change of ends the schools lads were in the lead 34-26 and finished the game comfortably with a lead of 23 points.
Udumalgala led from the front netting 23 points while Sudesh Ahmed netted 20 points. Harshadeva De Silva who seemed to be playing a lone game for his side ended scoring 17 points for the losing Colombo BC.
Mercantile BC clinch
women’s title
In the women’s final Mercantile BC recorded a 71-58 win over SL Navy to lift the title. The former led 32-24 at the half time before registering the 13-point win over the female sailors. For the winners Kumarine Silva and Shalika Gomez netted 17 and 12 points respectively while Prameela Fernando scored some valuable 23 points for SL Navy.
