Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission to monitor implementation of accessibility laws for disabled persons

grregan
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka is to monitor the implementation of the regulations on accessibility for disabled persons.
The Commission monitors the implementation of the regulations in public buildings, and places where common services are available.

The Commission has called on the public to notify it in the event they come across any violation of the accessibility regulations, especially on accessibility to buildings.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice Priyantha Perera has said that apart from the legal provisions on accessibility rights of disabled persons, Article 12 of the Constitution also relates to equality of persons including those with disabilities.
It is therefore a fundamental right protected by the Constitution, he has said.
A discussion had recently been held at the Commission on the problems faced by persons with disabilities.
