Sri Lanka needs to commit to fully implement LLRC recommendations - Japanese special envoy

Sri Lanka needs to be committed to fully implement the recommendations made by the Lesson Learned and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) in its report, Japanese special envoy to Sri Lanka, Yasushi Akashi has said.
Akashi has expressed his view at a meeting with government
 parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa in Tokyo Thursday, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan said yesterday.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is in Tokyo as a Special Envoy of the President to attend an annual Sri Lanka Tea and Trade Promotion Seminar, has held bilateral discussions Akashi, Special Representative of the Government of Japan for Sri Lanka.
According to a communiqué issued by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tokyo, Akashi, while congratulating the government for the progress being made in Sri Lanka, has expressed his views on the current status of the LLRC report and the need for Sri Lanka's commitment to the full implementation of the report, the Embassy said in a statement.
Akashi has stressed the importance of the strong bilateral relations between Japan and Sri Lanka and assured that Japan will always support and stand by Sri Lanka whenever assistance is needed.
MP Rajapaksa has apprised the Japanese envoy of the ongoing progress in Sri Lanka and the rapid development in the North East region.
He had also emphasized the important role the government played to resettle people back in their original homes in the North and East.
He has further informed that the reconciliation programme for rehabilitated cadres is also progressing successfully and a large number of rehabilitated cadres have now been sent back to their villages with special financial assistance given by the government for them to start their own self-employment projects.
Namal Rajapaksa has acknowledged the continuous assistance and support extended to Sri Lanka by the government of Japan over the years and expressed the need for stronger bilateral relations.
Sri Lanka and Japan commemorate 60 years of strong friendship between the two countries this year.
